Congenital cryptia is one of the rare congenital anomalies among Occidentals, but it is not so rare among Orientals, occuring about once in every 400 births. It has unknown etiology.
A 24 year old man was admitted to our medical center because of a deformity in which the superior portion of the right auricle was embedded beneath the scalp, and a sharp curvature of the superior crura antihelicis was also present. On physical examination, there were no specific abnormal findings except for the above chief complaints.
There are many ways to repair cryptotia.
On this patient reconstruction with advancement flap and full thickness skin grafts was carried out.
\ e obtained excellent results by using this reconstructive technique and there was no aesthetic and functional disturbance of the right auricle and the deformity was also minimal.
